Brace yourself...
We are targeting completion and move-in in 2012.
This is not a promise, but an ambitious goal.
We plan to use an industrial construction methodology that more resembles major infrastructure construction than conventional home building. Using this rapid build, and single bulk-material process, we are targeting a construction time for all buildings of approximately 12 months. Yes, this can be done, indeed it is being done in projects around the world. If we succeed, this means that construction begins toward the end of 2011.
We estimate that it will take about a year of preparation, meaning that toward the end of 2010 we will begin building the roads, plazas, industrial park, motorpool, freight depot and public utilities systems. At the same time, engineers will fabricate the machinery needed for the industrial construction methodology.
This means that we have 2009 to set the program in motion and 2009-2010 to enrol the future villagers and to secure the land with all necessary approvals by the district and regional councils.
We believe this is not only realistic, but necessary. We believe it can be done, and we believe there is nothing like pressure to concentrate people's attention to get it done. We also have spent years preparing, so while the actual elapsed time for the work may be short, this reflects a high level of organisation and attention to detail.
